Job Overview:
A Lathe Grinder is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathe grinding machines to shape and finish metal and other materials. This role involves precision work to ensure that parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards. The Lathe Grinder works with various tools and equipment to perform grinding operations, ensuring that safety protocols and operational procedures are followed.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Setup and Operation:
- Set up and operate lathe grinding machines according to specifications and work orders.
- Select and mount appropriate grinding wheels and tools for the job.
- Adjust machine settings to achieve the desired dimensions and finish.
Grinding Operations:
- Perform grinding operations on metal and other materials to achieve specified tolerances and surface finishes.
- Monitor the grinding process to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Measure and inspect workpieces using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify conformance to specifications.
Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance on lathe grinding machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machine issues to minimize downtime.
- Keep the work area clean and organized.
Quality Control:
- Inspect finished parts for defects and ensure they meet quality standards.
- Document inspection results and maintain accurate records.
- Work closely with quality control personnel to address any issues or discrepancies.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in machining or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in operating lathe grinding machines or similar equipment.
- Experience with precision grinding and working to tight tolerances.
Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine operations.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
Certifications:
- Machinist or tool and die maker certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
- Good hand-eye coordination and vision to work with precision instruments.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Working Conditions:
