Hours/Shift:  12 hour shifts 
Schedule rotates every ten weeks from days to nights working 12-hour shifts with a 2-2-3 schedule

JOB DESCRIPTION
 
The Manufacturing (Press) Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and direction with press operations and ensuring press teams maintain efficiency and quality standards based on customer specifications
This role will also train and develop press crews, coordinate production with pre-press and post-press departments, and maintain compliance while consistently enforcing all company, safety, and environmental policies and standards.

 ** The MANUFACTURING SUPERSIVOR should be well-rounded and experienced in the Printing Industry:
 
  • Their primary role is managing all Press Supervisors, Pressmen and Operators
  • Position will be reporting to the G.M.
  • Typically, that person would have to have experience with any of the following: Digital or web Printing, Offset Printing, Bindery, Inline Finishing, Commercial Printing, etc. 
  • Should have experience and familiar with any GOSS machines e.g. GOSS C700 or Heidelberg press or similar.press machines.
  • The Supervisor will have around 15 people on their shift, they will work 12 hour shifts 6-6 and rotate every 10 weeks, they will receive an OT bonus if they work outside their normal 2-2-3 schedule.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  1. Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department
  2. Oversees the daily workflow of the department
  3. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
  4. Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
  5. Observe press operations and examine printed material to verify conformance with press run specifications to meet, and exceed, customer expectations, internal and external
  6. Authorize quality of product once proofs are checked for ink coverage and density, alignment, and registration
  7. Communicate effectively with all internal and external customers to ensure that all production requirements, schedules, quality, and final deliveries of our products are satisfactory
  8. Coordinate staffing efforts to effectively meet all quality and production requirements without over staffing
  9. Maintain and monitor the completion of all necessary records such as daily production and throughput, plate make over requests, maintenance requests, accident reports, counseling records, press production information sheets, and roll performance records, as assigned
  10. Monitor press speeds, waste and labor
  11. Communicate excess downtime to Scheduling department
  12. Assist operators in coordination of Preventative Maintenance for presses
  13. Perform other duties as assigned
  14. Requires working around and operating departmental equipment
  15. This position requires some work in an office environment and some work in a production environment
 


 Skills and Abilities

 • High School Diploma or equivalent
 • 3 -5+ years of press operator experience
•  Experience with using press machines i.e., Heidelberg, GOSS, etc
 • 1-3+ years of previous supervisory experience preferred.
 • Thorough knowledge of press operations and functions.
•  Web printing experience is a plus.
 • Mechanical ability preferred
 • Must be organized and have the ability to plan, prioritize and follow through on projects with minimal supervision
 • Must have ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
 • Understands basic math skills, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurements and critical thinking, to solve practical problems
 • Must have the ability to work effectively in stressful situations and meet stringent deadlines
 • Must have basic computer skills with ability to use Microsoft programs and production related software
 • Must be self-motivated, reliable, and quality, safety oriented
