Job Description:
Position Summary
The Loading Assistant works on the temperature-controlled loading docks to manually stage, wrap, load, and unload palletized products. This role ensures the fast, safe, and accurate movement of freight between the cold storage warehouse and outbound trailers while maintaining strict food safety and temperature control standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Dock Operations: Manually load and unload freight from inbound and outbound trailers safely and efficiently.
- Freight Staging: Securely stack, wrap, and stage product cases on pallets according to specific shipping manifests and order guides.
- Quality & Inventory Control: Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for damaged packaging, leaking boxes, or broken pallets, and immediately report defects to the supervisor.
- Temperature Control: Keep dock doors closed when not actively loading to protect product quality and preserve the warehouse cold chain.
- Cleanliness & Safety: Keep the shipping and receiving dock areas free of debris, broken wood, and shrink wrap to maintain a safe working environment.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Experience: Previous experience in warehouse operations, general labor, or shipping/receiving environments is preferred but not required.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to follow basic spoken and written instructions, read labels, and use basic barcode scanners if needed.
- Reliability: Punctual attendance and the ability to work productively within a fast-paced team setting.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Heavy Lifting: Ability to frequently lift, carry, and maneuver up to 60 lbs without help, and up to 100 lbs with help.
- Work Environment: Constant exposure to a refrigerated warehouse dock environment (typically maintained around 34 degrees F to 38 degrees F).
- Physical Endurance: Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach continuously throughout an 8- to 10-hour shift.
